Story by Artist : Yannick Tossing

For this artwork, it was important for me to stick to my style and find a way of using that to visualise a topic of great importance. After taking into consideration the sustainable development goals around drinking water and sanitation, I thought I should tell a story through my artwork on how the quality of the water needs to change. Therefore, the “bloody” water in my collage is a reference to one of the plagues of Moses, where he turns the water into blood so that it becomes undrinkable. That shows the bad quality of our current waters and calls for a change.

Artiest

My name is Yannick Tossing, born in 1994 in the tiny country of Luxembourg, where I grew up as well. My mother is from Portugal and my father from Luxembourg. I moved to Strasbourg for 4 years to do my Bachelor and Master degree in Visual Arts Research. In those years I started to work a lot on 3D Pen Sculptures, linking Huntington Disease with deformation in sculpture. After that, I moved to Amsterdam, did a second Master in Comparative Arts in Media Studies, worked in art galleries, on a tourist boat, for the post office, for Paramount, and with Dutch artist Jesse Faber. I never lost the connection to the art world and am still often doing art projects back in Luxembourg for the urban art gallery Kamellebuttek while creating my artworks on the side. Besides all that, I really love the simple life. I do not need much to be happy. As long as I have the right people around me, I am happy.
